Symptom

You are sending mail through the PHP mail() function from your website. The recipient sees ftp-username@senderdomain.tld as your sender address (e.g. srv-doejohn01@john-doe-domain.com). You want to change the sender’s address to another value like no-reply@john-doe-domain.com.

Cause

When you do not transmit a specific sender address to the SMTP service of the host, the service will use your web space's account name as the sender name.

Solution

The PHP mail() function supports several parameters. When calling the PHP mail() function you need to use the fifth parameter to tell the SMTP service, which sender address it shall use. As the fifth parameter add

-f

for example

-f no-reply@john-doe-domain.com
