Symptom

You download mails from your mailbox or you send new mails. Your mail software displays a security (certificate) warning message, that the SSL/TLS security certificate is invalid or does not match the server name.

Example:
"Internet Security Warnung, the server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified.
Wrong target principal name."

Cause

You have entered your domain name or your IP address as the mail-in and mail-out server name instead of the host name. The mail server only includes a valid security certificate for the host name.

Solution

In your mail client replace the mail-in and mail-out server entry by the host name. The host name normalle is .bitpalast.net, for example elbe.bitpalast.net. You can find the exact host name in the server welcome mail that you have received at the beginning of your web space contract period.
