Symptom

You have clicked on the “Whois data” icon in the web space control panel. Now you wonder why you are not mentioned as the domain owner. Instead, tech-c and zone-c records show Bitpalace.

Cause

For most domain endings the whois datasets consists of four parts:

Owner-c (owner-contact):
The owner of a domain name and the person who is economically entitled to it.

Admin-c (admin-contact):
The domain administrator, for example an employee of the owner.

Tech-c (tech-contact):
The technical administrator who is responsible for host and web space operations.

Zone-c (zone-contact):
The technical administrator who is responsible for the name servers.

What data is displayed in a whois request of a domain is determined by the registries: Each domain ending (e.g. .com, .eu, .info …) is managed by a different registry. Each registry decides at its own discretion which data can be seen and which not. For .de domains for example, only Tech-C and Zone-C can be retrieved directly. Owner-c and admin-c can only be seen on the website of the denic.de registry. For other toplevel domains other rules apply.

Solution

When you lease a domain from Bitpalace, you become domain owner (owner-c) and administrator (admin-c), but Bitpalace is technical administrator and zone administrator, because you have delegated these two tasks to us.
